Christ
the King

Jesus said to his disciples: "In
so far as you did this to one of these brothers/sisters
of mine, you did it to me." There are
many ways of looking at what Christianity is about and
most of them are valid. This extraordinary statement
by Christ brings us to the very heart of it - the absolute
dignity of every human being, the beloved of God. We
practice our Christianity primarily through our love
for one another and our care for all those in need.
They say that charity begins at home. How true that
is. Very often the person who is in most need is a wife
or husband who is being taken for granted. Or there
is often the child or young person who has everything
except real affection for which they crave. But charity
cannot remain at home. It has to spread out to the parish
community and through that community to the poor and
marginalised. That is how we honour Christ as our King.

The Greatest Evil
in the World
Mother
Teresa said:
‘Many
today are starving for ordinary bread.
But there is another kind of hunger –
the hunger to be wanted, to be loved, to be recognised.
Nakedness too is not just the want of clothes,
but also about loss of dignity, purity, and self-respect.
And homelessness is not just want of a house;
there is the homelessness of being rejected,
of being unwanted in a throwaway society.
The biggest disease in the world today
is the feeling of being unwanted and uncared for.
The greatest evil in the world is lack of love,
the terrible indifference towards one’s neighbour.’
Lord, warm our
cold hearts with your grace,
so that we your disciples may produce the fruits of
love.

Last week’s
Collection was £1,277.00. Many thanks.

Advent
Calendar with a difference!
Children in
Crossfire is delighted to launch its new Advent Campaign.
Advent is the season when we prepare for Christmas.
Often our Christmas preparations focus on buying gifts
for our families and those we love. This year through
the Advent calendar there will be an opportunity to
prepare for Christmas in a different way. Each day you
will be able to contribute to Children in Crossfire
and also get a short reflection to help focus on what
Christmas is really about. The Advent Calendar boxes
can be collected from the church and can be returned
at Christmas. Telephone [028] 71269898.
